Being authentic means expressing your emotions and opinions and being true to your personality and character. Instead of attempting to fit into a mold of living up to the (perceived) expectations of others, being authentic allows you to create a life that is true to yourself.

In this post, we will explore the value of authenticity, signs you may not be true to yourself, potential reasons why you struggle with being authentic, and daily routine suggestions you can implement to regain your authenticity.

Why is authenticity important?

Authenticity is important for many reasons, including physical, mental, and emotional well-being. To be authentic means to be connected to your needs, feelings, and desires. It's so important that authenticity is considered a basic human need.

Being authentic to yourself makes you more likely to take actions that are in YOUR best interest and that YOU will be satisfied with the life you've built for yourself.

Being authentic means, you're being true to yourself and allows you to develop a deeper and more sincere connection with yourself and others. When you're true to yourself, people are more likely to trust you and feel at ease around you, as they can tell you're genuine. Being authentic to yourself also helps you identify people who hold similar values and opinions, which can help you form more substantial and lasting relationships.

Signs you may not be true to yourself

There are a number of indications that you might not be being authentic. These consist of the following:

  • Feeling dissatisfied or unfulfilled in your life

  • Feeling like you're trying to be someone you're not

  • Feeling as though you're living someone else's life or doing what someone else wants you to do
