Many of us who struggle with people-pleasing carry a deep sense of shame and guilt, feeling as if we’ve lived our lives “wrong.” But what if I told you that people-pleasing isn’t a flaw or a sign of weakness, but rather a survival mechanism—something you developed for a good reason? In this article, I’m going to explore how people-pleasing has served us, why it’s okay to unlearn it, and how you can start to reclaim your true self. I want to speak to you about this because I know how heavy this realization can be, and I believe it’s time we start seeing people-pleasing for what it truly is—a response to what happened to us, not who we are.
